Anarchy Online Intelligence Report

Weapons and Equipment:  Anarchy Credits will offer a large variety of weapons from which to choose. There will be basic melee weapons as well as power swords and energy whips. Ranged weapons will also be used in the game, from basic projectile weapons such as shotguns to energy weapons such as blasters and gauss guns. Clans will most likely start with shotguns and shoddy armor, where Omni-Tek employees will have a wide range of armors and weapons to choose from. To prevent low-level players from being given inappropriately powerful weapons, Anarchy Online incorporates level checks and DNA locks on certain weapons and equipment.

Technology System:  Anarchy Credits won't contain any type of magic, but players skilled in nanotechnology will control an invisible cloud of nano bots, enabling them to create incredible effects. Their use of nanoformulas would seem like magic to ordinary people.

Interface: At present, relatively little is known about the interface. From what has been seen on some screenshots it looks mostly mouse-driven with some keyboard commands.

Technology: The 3D engine is a third-generation engine developed in-house at Funcom, and recently used in the adventure game The Longest Journey. Quite some time has been spent optimizing and fine-tuning it for use with the latest 3D-cards to take advantage of new features like hardware transform and lighting.  Anarchy Credits will run in every resolution and depth your graphics card supports.

Interaction with Fans: Funcom has really treated its fans well. Team members post to the official message board often, drop by the chatrooms from time to time, and respond to emails and feedback as soon as they can, which is usually within a few days. Almost every suggestion made has been given thought and feedback, with honest answers on what is practical and what cannot be done. The official site is updated from time to time with new screenshots, information and releases.

Positives: Having a storyline that takes course over a four-year period promises to make this game unique. Players will significantly affect how events will turn out and which side will ultimately win. Player-killing is area-based rather than having a player versus player switch, which will add a lot more realism to the game.

Question Marks: It is presently unknown whether or not players will be allowed to have their own vehicles. Funcom's idea of a single large gameworld rather than multiple shards remains to be tested, and a final decision will only be made during the beta test.

Outlook:  Anarchy Credits has already developed a strong core community whose members are already choosing which side they intend to play. Although Funcom has quite a task ahead to establish itself within the online RPG community and genre, having the first major science fiction-based game in the persistent online world market should definitely give it an advantage.

System Requirements: The minimum requirement is expected to be Pentium 200 MMX (Pentium II 333 recommended), 32 MB RAM (64 MB), DirectX 3D card. Windows 95/98 will be supported, and Funcom plans to release a Linux version after the game ships.
