Anarchy Online - Alien Invasion Review

Due to its extensive arrays of attributes, skills, nanoformulas (spells), weapons and armor, Anarchy Credits doesn't have an easy learning curve. However, you'll probably be greeted by an Advisor of Rubi-Ka (ARK), a player who is knowledgeable about the game and who will help you to learn the ropes. NPCs will also tell you things you need to do or know, and a tip menu, which you can disable if want, will automatically show you such actions as teaming with another player or how to attack a monster. Since these things happen in a training area, you're in no real danger of losing experience.

Having learned the basics, it's time to start exploring. Solo play is possible, but teaming is pretty popular since the majority of quests offering the best rewards require assistance, and team missions give you more experience. The community is large and friendly, both help and group are quite easy to find. Players who pre-ordered can also have a pet, a type of bird called a Leet. There are about 10 amusing variations such as the Masculeet, Cheerleet and Godzileet. They're mainly for fun; in addition to just having them along, you can buff them up and have them fight each other.

What about the aliens? Although other options may be considered down the road, the only way to encounter them and to obtain alien experience at present is in player cities. Attacks may be triggered by a certain type of building, allowing guilds to organize their members to fight them off. Other players may be invited to help out. This can be advantageous since the strength of the invading force is apparently based on the defending guild. The game allows anyone to join such battles, but it's considered rude to jump in uninvited. Defeated enemies may drop loot that lets you create or upgrade alien weapons and armor; further details are available in the Anarchy Credits Vault Knowledge Base.

If a city manages to take down enough waves of attackers, a General will show up to try and damage your City Controller. This is where the action picks up even further. If you defeat it, up to three teams may board separate areas of the alien dropship. Each group has about 15 minutes to battle its way through the vessel's corridors to a boss that has minions around for protection, but which carries the best items. The timed element adds an extra layer of strategy, requiring you to balance fighting and resting, and also helps pump up your adrenaline.
